Mayflower carries on playing its role as an ethically responsible corporate citizen in the community through various events held with the objective of fostering for the well-being of the society at large. In the past year, the Company supported numerous charitable organizations that help physically challenged and underprivileged children through donations and sponsorships i.e. Mayflower Collection Drive for Shelter Homes, A day trip for the under privileged children to A’famosa, sponsored coach transfer for the children in Federal Territory Association for Retarded Children, Monetary or some of the non-profit organizations and societies: Yayasan Jantung Malaysia, Badan Kebajikan Kakitangan Melayu DBKL, Ti-Ratana Welfare Society, Persatuan Pusat Kebajikan Insan Malaysia (donate automatic wheel chair), sponsored World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine, Kiwanis Malaysia, sponsored coach transfer for Malaysian Aids Foundation ‘s activity (Riding for Life) etc. Mayflower, in addition has continuously contributed to the needy regardless in monetary or equipment form. The Company has also provided employment to fresh graduates of different disciplines as well as offered paid practical training for undergraduates from local universities and colleges to show its support towards nurturing future leaders for the country. In October 2002, Mayflower had entered into a Sale and Purchase Agreement to acquire the entire equity of Discovery Tours (Sabah) Sdn Bhd for a total purchase consideration of RM1.47 million. The acquisition offers an opportunity for Mayflower to expand the product range and moving into nature and adventure tourism in Sabah to promote eco-tourism and support the local community by employing local residents in the Sandakan lodge. |
